Why Wild Heat Saunas

Home Saunas in Ireland —
Built for the Way You Live

There is something deeply right about a home sauna on an Irish evening. You come in from the cold, step into warm cedar heat, and the world slows down. At Wild Heat Saunas, we have spent over five years making that experience possible for homeowners the length and breadth of Ireland. Whether you want a fully bespoke build or a quality pre-built barrel sauna, we make it happen.

We know that commissioning a home sauna is a significant decision. You want it done properly, by people who take the craft seriously. That is why every project starts with a real conversation: about your space, your lifestyle, your budget, and exactly what a finished sauna should feel like in your home. We handle design, materials, installation, and handover — and we are with you throughout. Not a middleman. Not just a kit reseller. A dedicated build team.

Whether you are imagining a compact indoor cabin off your utility room, a stunning pre-built outdoor barrel sauna on your decking, or a full bespoke wellness space with steam room, we have the experience to bring it to life. Come in from the cold — this is where it starts.

What We Build

Bespoke Sauna Design, Build & Installation

Every project is different. Here is how we bring your home sauna to life — from first sketch to first heat session.

Sauna design consultation and planning for an Irish home
Service 01

Sauna Design

A great home sauna begins with a design that genuinely fits your space — not a template dropped into your bathroom or garden. We start with a thorough site consultation, taking exact measurements and talking through how you live, who will use the sauna, and what atmosphere you are after. From there, we produce detailed layout drawings and material specifications so you can see exactly what you are getting before a single piece of timber is cut.

We design for all settings: indoor conversions, garden buildings, outbuildings, and purpose-built wellness pods. If the space exists, we will find the right sauna for it. If you are not sure yet what is possible, that is exactly what the consultation is for.

Sauna Build

We build every custom sauna ourselves — no subcontractors, no cut corners. Our team works with premium natural timbers, principally Western Red Cedar and thermowood, chosen for their heat resistance, low resin content, and beautiful ageing. Every element — framing, insulation, cladding, benching, ventilation, and lighting — is constructed with the same careful attention to quality.

We build indoor saunas (converting spare rooms, utility spaces, or basement areas), standalone outdoor cabins, barrel saunas, and integrated wellness rooms with separate steam and cold plunge areas. Prefer a faster, more affordable route? Our pre-built barrel saunas are ready to order and delivered to your door. Whatever the format, the standard of finish is the same: the kind you are proud to show guests and that gets better with every year of use.

Sauna Installation

Installation day is where the design becomes real. Our team arrives with everything needed to complete your sauna to the agreed specification: heater units, controls, ventilation fittings, lighting, and all finishing timber. We work cleanly, protect your home throughout, and leave the site as tidy as we found it.

We install traditional electric sauna heaters (kiuas), wood-burning stoves, and infrared systems, wiring and commissioning each unit to manufacturer and safety standards. Before we hand over the keys, we run a full heat test with you present — so your first solo session is already your second. Every installation includes a walkthrough of how to use and maintain your sauna for years to come.

How It Works

From First Call to First Heat Session

A clear, unhurried process — so you always know exactly where your project stands.

Free Consultation

We start with a conversation — on-site or by video, wherever you are in Ireland. We listen first, then advise. No sales pressure, no jargon. Just an honest discussion about what is possible for your home and budget.

Design & Quote

We produce a bespoke design with layout drawings and a fully itemised quotation, or point you to the right pre-built model. You see everything — materials, dimensions, heating system, finishes, and total cost — before you commit to anything. Transparent from the start.

Build & Installation

Once you are happy to proceed, we schedule your build or delivery. Our team handles everything on site — framing, insulation, cladding, heater installation, electrical connections, and finishing. We work cleanly and efficiently, minimising disruption to your home throughout.

Handover & First Session

We run a full heat test with you present, walk you through operation and maintenance, and make sure everything is exactly right before we leave. Your sauna is ready to use from day one. We remain available after handover should you have any questions.

Questions & Answers

Everything You Want to Know About Home Saunas

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often. Still not sure? Just call us.

How much does a home sauna cost in Ireland?

Home sauna costs in Ireland vary widely depending on size, materials, and complexity. A compact indoor cabin sauna typically starts from around €4,000–€7,000 fully installed. A mid-range custom build with premium timber and integrated controls usually falls in the €8,000–€15,000 range. Larger bespoke outdoor saunas or full steam rooms can range from €15,000 upwards. Our pre-built barrel saunas start from €4,400. We provide fully itemised free quotes, so you know exactly what you are getting before any work begins.

Do I need planning permission for a home sauna in Ireland?

In most cases, a residential sauna — particularly an indoor installation or a modest outdoor structure — falls within normal exempted development under Irish planning regulations. However, this depends on the size of the structure, its proximity to boundaries, and your local authority's specific rules. We advise all clients on this during the design consultation and, where required, can guide you through the appropriate process.

What types of sauna do you build?

We design and build a full range of home saunas: traditional Finnish dry saunas, infrared saunas, barrel saunas, outdoor cabin saunas, and full steam rooms. We also offer a range of pre-built barrel saunas ready to order. Every custom sauna is bespoke — designed around your space, your lifestyle, and the finishes you love. We work with premium cedar, thermowood, and other natural timbers suited to the Irish climate.

How long does it take to build a home sauna?

Timelines depend on the scope of work. A straightforward indoor sauna installation typically takes between three and seven days on site. A larger custom outdoor structure can take one to three weeks. Pre-built barrel saunas are typically the fastest option, since the unit itself is ready to order and simply needs to be delivered and sited. We will give you a clear project timeline at the design stage, and our team keeps disruption to your home to an absolute minimum throughout.

Do you install saunas across all of Ireland?

Yes. Wild Heat Saunas works across all of Ireland — Leinster, Munster, Connacht, and Ulster. We have installed home saunas from Cork to Donegal, Dublin to Clifden. Travel costs may apply for certain areas; we will be transparent about this in your quote.

Are your saunas fully custom, or do you sell pre-made kits?

We offer both. Our custom saunas are designed and constructed specifically for you — tailored to your dimensions, your timber preference, your heating system, and your aesthetic vision. We also stock a range of quality pre-built barrel saunas in five sizes, in pinewood or thermowood, for clients who want a faster turnaround at a lower price point.

What heating systems do you use?

We install a range of sauna heating systems to suit different preferences and budgets, including traditional wood-burning kiuas, electric sauna heaters, and infrared panels. Our pre-built barrel saunas come with an electric Harvia 9kW stove as standard, with a wood-burning stove upgrade available. We work with market-leading heater brands known for reliability and efficiency, and will advise on the most suitable option for your chosen sauna type and usage habits during the design consultation.

What timber do you use for your saunas?

We primarily work with Western Red Cedar — prized for its natural thermal resistance, low resin content, and beautiful warm tone that deepens with age. We also use thermowood (heat-treated timber), Nordic spruce, and aspen depending on the application and client preference. Our pre-built barrel saunas are available in pinewood or thermowood. All timber is responsibly sourced. We will walk you through the options at your consultation so you can choose what suits your space and taste.

Is Wild Heat Saunas fully insured?

Yes. Wild Heat Saunas carries full public liability insurance and all of our installation work is carried out to the highest professional standards. We are happy to provide proof of insurance on request before any work commences.

What is the process from first contact to completed sauna?

The journey starts with a free consultation — either on-site or by video, wherever you are in Ireland. We then produce a bespoke design and fully itemised quotation, or point you to the right pre-built model. Once you are happy to proceed, we schedule your build or delivery. Our team handles everything: groundwork (if required), framing, insulation, cladding, heater installation, and finishing. We hand over a completed, tested sauna ready for its first session — and stay available after handover if you have questions.

What are the health benefits of a home sauna?

Regular sauna use is widely associated with a range of wellbeing benefits, including improved cardiovascular circulation, muscle recovery after exercise, stress relief, better sleep quality, and skin health. Having a sauna at home means you can build a consistent wellness habit without the need to travel to a gym or spa. We always recommend consulting your GP if you have any underlying health conditions.

How do I get a quote for a home sauna?
